WHAT IS A VERTICAL STYLE CARPORT

Don’t be confused by the name. This is a very simple structure. A vertical carport is nothing more than a standard carport where the roof panels run vertically, perpendicular to the longest edge of the structure. So, as you look up at the carport, you’ll see the sections of roof running up and down, rather than from side to side (which would be a horizontal roof).

WHY CHOOSE A VERTICAL CARPORT?

There are a few distinct advantages to a vertical carport over the horizontal style. First, you’ll get more structural rigidity with this design, since more support is needed for the panels. There is more structure overall involved with the construction of a vertical style carport, and as a result, the building should be sturdier over the long run.

These models also tend to do a better job dealing with precipitation. Since the panels run up and down, they create a clear path for rain or snow to slide right off. If you live in a climate where large precipitation totals are a way of life, you will quickly come to appreciate the advantage of having a vertical roof on your carport.

ARE THERE ANY DRAWBACKS?

It all sounds pretty good so far, and it is. The only drawback of note, as you might have guessed, is that a vertical style carport may cost slightly more than a horizontal model. The additional cost is due to the added structure that is needed to support the roof. However, while you may have to pay a bit more up front, most buyers are thankful they made that investment when they see how well their carport performs over the long run. Given the relatively modest increase in price, and what you stand to gain, picking a vertical design is an easy choice.
